Carne Griffths

It's been awhile since I've posted any sort of inspiration on this blog, to be honest, my pregnant brain hasn't really been feeding off anything. And to be even more honest, everything has gone on standstill. My writing, my own art, my inspirations and everything else I could possibly think of. I'd like to believe babygirl is feeding it all as she lays in my belly, sucking up all possible remnants of my artistic soul. 

Perhaps she'll be an artist like me. Perhaps not. All I know is, I can't wait to meet her.

For now though, a little inspiration from Carne Griffiths has left a perfectly sweet taste in my mouth with his amazing pieces created with ink, tea, vodka, brandy ..... a wonderfully mystical collection of work, with his liquid streaks dripping down his paper to create an effect that works perfectly with his whole vision. His abstraction leaves one to only join him on his journey through his creative kingdom and envision his power of creating a path for others to enter through his world. 

 

I'm glad I found him, his art brings me joy in a time that I needed it most.

a dab of colour, a stroke of a brush

I forget how good it feels to hold that brush. 

Even if its spent painting animals with poster paints and decorating parrots with sequins and feathers on my dining table with my four year old.

Javier Pacheco has made me smile this one Tuesday afternoon and has reminded me that 

sometimes its not about getting that one piece perfect.

Sometimes it's doodles in a little sketchbook that can be the ideal piece in itself.

Reminds me that being a perfectionist may be part of my procrastination.

And he reminds me that perhaps letting loose once in a while shouldn't be too bad.

art inspiration : anna grosh

Anna Grosh for The Jane Campion Film Festival. A Siberian graphic designer/ illustrator now based in San Francisco, working wonders with that creativity of hers.  

Her ink wash and sketched portraits again show my ultimate love for this kind of mixed media. There's just something about how a black and white drawing or sketch sits perfectly amongst the splotches of washed out color.

Uptown

Downtown

Eat-you-alive town.

Nothing here is innocent.

Nothing here is really pure.

There's danger around each corner.

Nothing here is stopping, nothing here is slow.

There's never a moment of silence,

There's never a moment alone.

Horns honking,

People talking,

Vendors yelling,

Children laughing.

The city has a beat,

It pounds into your brain.

There's a rhythm to this city, a shuffle that's contagious.

This city's made of music!

It'll stick in your head and never leave.

It's a fantasy.

A daydream.

It grows on you and makes you want to stay.

You become a part of the music of the street.

pretty little layers

 

I couldn''t possible edit any photos out of my little collection because I love every single one.

For those of you who have been reading my blog for some time now, know that these drawings speak my language of artistic love to a tee.

Such feminine illustrations by Australian artist Elisa Mazzone. She uses layers of lace, fabric or string to detail her delicate sketches that create a little 3D illusion and dimension. It gives her drawings a depth of detail next to the soft lines in her 2d sketch.

Pencil + watercolour wash + lace = absolute love.

when a child feels free

I don't have any words for this except that I thought the whole video was wonderful.

For a whole thirteen minutes, I sat and watched her paint.

I hope you do too.

when lines become art : Louise Despont

I just love Brooklyn artist Louise Despont's architectural geometry and lines. Her patterns of complex lines and circles, created with graphite on antique paper, are so wonderfully detailed and extremely intricate. Her symmetry is soft and delicate, but in fact also manages to create a softness to her more angular lines.

I love the art deco feel to each piece, but yet what definitely draws me to her work the most is the architectural drawing feel to her artwork.

makes me want to work out all day, everyday.
but it makes wonderful illustration.

check out illustrator Pippa Mcmanus at workable fixative for more of her work. she loves length in figures, draws high fashion, used splotches of colours but my favourite of hers are when she keeps it simple with black and white. but then again, i'm biased. black and white anything always gets my attention.
